A vacuum tube-based channel strip that offers a bevy of flexible sound-tailoring options, the dbx 676 delivers stunning sound for recording and live sound applications. When you first fire it up, that glowing tube behind its front-panel grille is your first clue to what's in store: the sonic glories of a world-class vintage/modern design. dbx designed the 676 for rich, pristine sonics and tube warmth, and included a flexible gain structure that lets you add any amount of personality, punch, and edge to vocals and instruments. The 676 rocks a high-gain, Class A tube mic preamplifier section based around a 12AU7 vacuum tube that you can tweak for your desired degree of harmonic character, from pristine clean to delightfully dirty.
Exacting control over dynamics and tonal balance
For exacting control over dynamics and tonal balance, the 676 includes the compressor/limiter design from the acclaimed dbx 162SL, plus a 3-band parametric EQ. Featuring both soft- and hard-knee compression, proprietary AutoVelocity manual and OverEasy modes, and a PeakStop limiting algorithm - plus threshold, attack, gain and release, and auto attack and release controls, the compressor/limiter gives you amazingly flexible control over your dynamics. The 676's 3-band parametric EQ lets you adjust boost/cut and bandwidth at frequencies that were selected for maximum musicality.
Pro features, easy to use
The dbx 676 gives you professional connectivity, with 1/4-inch and XLR inputs and outputs, a front-panel instrument input, and a side-chain insert. The 676 lets you precisely tailor your input and output levels - which you can keep tabs on via a large, old-school multi-function VU meter. A front-panel tri-color indicator lets you know the status of the 676's optional digital output card. Although extensive in its capabilities, the dbx 676's vintage-style controls and VU metering make it delightfully quick and ease to use. And its military-grade build will give you rock-solid service for many, many years!
